EggTrack 2024 Spotlight (UK, France, Italy, Spain and Poland)

Our European EggTrack 2024 provides in-country company Spotlights, covering the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Poland, to give a snapshot of how companies are progressing with their cage-free commitments.

It identifies which companies are ‘Leading’ the industry (already 100% cage-free), which are ‘In Progress’ (on track to reach 100% by 2025), which are ‘At Risk’ (of missing the 2025 deadline), and which are ‘Laggards’ (have a commitment but not reporting).

 

EggTrack Spotlight Category Key

EggTrack 2024 Spotlight focuses on companies that have 2025 cage-free commitment deadlines, categorising them as follows:

• Leaders = companies that have achieved 100% cage-free status.
• In Progress = companies that have achieved over 80% transition on one or both egg categories (shell egg and ingredient), OR over 80% transition for one egg category and have progressed well on the other in the last reporting period.
• At Risk = companies that have made less than 80% transition on one or both egg categories (shell egg, egg product and egg ingredient), OR are not reporting or don’t have a commitment across all egg categories.
• Laggards = companies that are either not reporting or have fallen behind on their commitments.

The following chart illustrates current market trends for egg production in the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Poland. Notably, 77% of the UK egg market has already transitioned to cage-free systems, demonstrating significant progress driven by companies leading the shift towards higher welfare practices.
